The Technology Behind Your Integration
Most modern business software has a built-in way to exchange data and information safely. Think of it like a secure pipe: the software lets DATAFORGE access the data you already own, but in a controlled way that does not interfere with how you interact with your tools. In technical terms, these pipes are called APIs—they’re standardized “access points” that allow two systems to communicate without exposing anything they shouldn’t.
​These secure API connections only exist in cloud-based software. Cloud-based simply means your tools run online, stay updated automatically, and aren’t tied to one machine. Because everything operates through the internet, the software can share information safely and consistently, making the integration fast and dependable.
Desktop software works very differently. They’re installed on a single computer and don’t have the online “pipes” (APIs) that cloud systems use to share data. Because everything stays locked to that machine, the software can’t send information to DATAFORGE in a safe, easy way. For this reason, we do not offer AI integration services with companies who use solely desktop business software.

Desktop software is installed directly onto computers in your office or on your company's local server. It runs from your own hardware—not through the internet—and updates only when you install them.
